Save Klingle Valley! -

Saved! Fortunately, the Council has voted against this plan, and Klingle Valley will not be turned into a roadway.

Old News:

Mayor Adrienne Fenty has proposed a new plan to pave over Klingle Valley, (which runs along the side of our building underneath of the Connecticut Avenue bridge), and make it into a roadway to alleviate traffic on Connecticut Avenue. The truth is, that:

  • This plan will add more traffic and congestion to our already over-crowded neighborhood, as well as spoil one the few remaining green spots in the city.

  • Klingle Valley has not been a road in over 17 years, and now the Mayor and other people think that by opening it up again and taking down trees, it will save them a few minutes in traffic.

  • It would not be safe as a road because it floods and has many sharp curves. When it was a road, there were many accidents, which is in itself, a substantial reason to oppose this new legislation.

  • Our Councilmember, Mary Cheh is opposed to it. Please write a letter to all City Council Members, especially Jim Graham, and let them know that you oppose the re-opening of Klingle Valley as a road!
